Lifespan Respite Act

While a number of states throughout the United States have developed systems such as Delaware’s Lifespan Respite Care Network, there has also been a growing federal initiative to establish federal legislation promoting such systems. Fortunately, the Lifespan Respite Care Act (PL 109-442) (PDF) has been passed. It authorizes grants to promote state-wide coalitions to make quality respite available and accessible to family caregivers, regardless of age or disability.

Delaware is currently working with ARCH National Respite Coalition to promote increased funding through this act, so that ultimately all states, including Delaware, will have access to funds to keep programs such as the Delaware Lifespan Respite Network operational.
