Families: Financial Assistance
Sources of Financial Assistance
Through the support of several local foundations, the Network is able to provide families with small grants to fund respite care. The grants will help pay for care for individuals of all ages and with any type of disability or special need. Grants will be
awarded up to $500 per recipient per calendar year. Priority is given to families who have financial need and are not eligible or receiving respite services from another organization or agency.
Who pays for respite care?
Some government programs (Medicaid Waiver as an example) pay for respite. Some funding relates to specific disabilities such as Autism and Multiple Sclerosis. The Specialist at (888) 610-5572 or locally (302) 479-1690 can help you determine if you or your loved one qualifies for such programs.
What if I don’t qualify for programs that fund respite care?
The Network has a limited amount of funding for families with no other respite funding option. The link below will provide information about eligibility and forms to complete to be considered for these vouchers.
In order to establish eligibility, caregivers should complete an application online, or download the form (PDF), complete, and submit by mail as directed on the form. If approved, caregivers can identify their own provider or work with the Network’s Specialist to identify appropriate care options.
Once care is given, caregivers submit a signed voucher (PDF) to either receive payment directly or have payment sent to the provider.
Note: Applications for 2010 financial assistance are now available.
Tips and Information
The choice of a respite care provider is an individual choice of the family who should be looking for the best match for their needs and that of the care recipient. For help in making the choice, click on How to Choose a Respite Provider (PDF).
